Teach them to catch fish

One of the major reason a girl child fails to attend the school are

  1. Accessibility,
  2. Poverty and
  3. Gender Inequality

If we can address these issues, we can achieve the goal of educating the girls,
Increase the access: we need more facilities, like restroom, school buildings and transport etc. for addressing
poverty/child labors/child marriage we need to provide them an alternate source of income, say a small stipend for the children attending the school, and who maintains some 95% percentage of complete attendance etc. When the girl child, becomes an income providing group, more parents tend to send the child to school.

  1. Why do they keep them at home ? or
  2. Send them to low wage child labor work ?
  3. When some one provides them a stipend/food along with a bright future ?

But the decision to go for a stipend/nutrition program is upto GOVT/UNICEF.

Please go through this article its very useful:Its about poverty with a different perspective:
http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2011/04/25/more_than_1_billion_people_are_hungry_in_the_world
Accessibility in the sense, they should have secure access to reach the school probably an investment in transport required, if this has some issue, probably we can use one of these.
Alternate Schooling Idea for Security Reasons

  1. Mobile van education : Use van, and find a common place in the locality, like church, the recorded media and teacher will be available to the students. If the no of quality teachers are less we have to go for alternatives mentioned below.
  2. Radio channels for education: I insist on radio, in a tablet dominated world as they increases imagination, the more technology we use less we imagine and moreover they are cheap.
  3. Internet based teaching : using Granny teaches concept / Foreign online volunteer teaches, if we can design a proper time zone based time table we can use this approach, students or any volunteer can take an hour class on their favorite subject, in their absence a recorded media can be telecast, we can use Google hangouts for interactive sessions. I believe many teenagers will support the cause! this can be introduced as a part of social service activity in colleges, some credit can be given,so that many students will participate, probably we can motivate them by providing a certificate as a token of appreciation. Use animation where ever possible, there are a lot of videos on various subjects, in video hosting sites like you tube, how stuff works, probably some rights may be needed to reuse them for teaching purpose.

For Gender Equality : we need to display the role of the women in the society, it can be done with help of campaigns in school, television or through package of food as mentioned in this idea so that it reaches all the people.

How does your idea sustainably solve the challenge question?
Accessibility / Poverty : The idea will be used to raise fund for the children, through GOVT - UNICEF. The product which will be created by this idea, will be an unique product that targets the youngster the new customer segment for obtaining the monetary aids.
The fund raised will be used for various purpose to ensure retention
  1. For building the school and restroom.
  2. Provide nutrition based food essential nutrition can be achieved at cheaper price, if we can bore theresponsibility of feeding the children, at least during the day time we can ensure retention of girls http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2011/04/25/more_than_1_billion_people_are_hungry_in_the_world
  3. For providing stipend for students who are worst affected by poverty.
  4. It improves the creativity of the child/girls so it helps in completing their day to day work soon in a creative manner. "Creativity cannot be measured, every one is blessed with some potential, its up to them in identifying them".
  5. The product can be used, to create an awareness for various campaigns "No smoking", "Population control","Important of peace", "Gender Equality" etc... The product can be relaunched at an interval based on these topics and as an emergency fund raiser ref the attached doc for details.
  6. The product can be used to preserve the art feature of an culture as well.
  7. The product concept can help in creating job opportunity, the students/volunteers gets an opportunity to learn things in campaigning through social site, meeting with ngo, maintaining the content for the site etc.
  8. Probably Govt can join with UNICEF, UN Women and make it as a bigger campaign, as more number of celebrities will be supporting the cause.
Gender Equality:
  1. The major customer segment designed in such a way that children, and youngsters will be the major contributors.
Other Benefits:
  1. Children having problems like obesity as well will get benefited when a advanced version is launched.
How will you meaningfully engage parents, families and communities in the design and implementation of your program?

The product, jeweler made out of candy/nuts package can be marketed at various places where the parents and children goes.
1. Retail Grocery Shop
2. Apparel Shop
3. Schools and Colleges
Advantages of using a nut based packaging food:

Intention is to make more humans, in the automated world, let the child make a contribute, every one will contribute a small token for a change in the society, especially the youngsters. It is all about supporting their group for education, to make a better broad minded generation with lot of entrepreneur, leaders and scientists.

Low Income Group: when a girl becomes an income generating person, we can avoid the child labor and child marriages. It is about inventing the first generation, for the subsequent generation the youngsters and children will take care.
View about a girl to society: A lot of awareness and public knowledge takes place through this campaign, what a woman can do and the advantages of educating the girls. The issue with most of the other campaigns like child labor or women education is awareness for a short term to an small group of people. The extensive message may reach to few people in social site or college/ schools and offices what about others ? members of the family who tend to be at home?. We can use the media, but how long? will they be interested? Unless a campaign hits the message in mind of a viewer its of no use. People will forget it soon. So the packaged candies in the form of jewelry will serve as a campaign medium. When celebrity are used to promote the product, through social site. Many youngsters will use it, so it reaches the public soon, as youngsters/UN Volunteers can access the remote places.

View of a girl about herself : The intention of keeping the idea, as an women oriented product, is to give confidence to poor girls, that there is a world which supports her, what a girl like her can contribute to the world.
Low cost of art work : The cost of the candy jewelry,it can be afforded by any one.
Communities : Organization like UN/UNICEF should use volunteers to achieve this task,They should work along with local NGO/Panchayath the fund raised should be used to build schools, rest room, providing food/stipend which ever is feasible based on their data.

Once in a while a audit needs to be done by the UN/UNICEF officer, without informing them in advance, and all these communities should submit a report monthly/quarterly basis and the progress needs to be submitted as an photo. The photos can be used in a site to provide the details of work in progress with the help of this idea.

This idea has been designed to reduce child-labor and decrease the school drop outs. But this can
be used for refugee as well.
Ongoing Fund : The idea is to make a product through the art work of child, and use that art work as a candy package,(with less investment, more students can buy, new product), basically the idea should be lead by an established org(GOVT/UN/UNICEF/UNHCR) they need to make a deal with the candy manufacturer, this packaging should be in form of an jeweler/bracelet to target the youngsters. This packaged product will be sold in schools, colleges, Shops etc just to raise an awareness and for raising the fund. The ratio of poor children will be far less than children who are doing well, So still lot of fund can be raised, if org like UNHCR can ensure that these products gets max tax benefit,we can raise more fund!
The product should be marketed in various countries, that's why i mentioned UNICEF and UN. If they could market it through school, college and shops (not sure how exactly they do merchandise) they can raise a good amount of aid. Is it possible GOVT\UNCIEF making a joint venture with one of these org? for executing this kind of idea? because the main issue is the fund and money, if we have more funds, more ideas can be executed and more children can be brought up to the school and these org have so many celebrities support and are present in many countries, so we can use those celebrities to promote the product. Please ref attached document about the product (social fashion)

Regarding Stipend : An estimate may be required, on an a, avg how much a family requires in a refugee, the intention is to keep the girls in the school that's why i mentioned students having an attendance of 90% so that at least for the sake of stipend parents will send them to school. paying a stipend to boys is fine, but the intention is to bring girls to school, even if you don't pay a stipend parents will send boys to school.Stipend is just an e.g the exact reason for which girls avoid school may be few other things, or if you feel stipend will create an issue let me know what else we can try? a survey may be needed, hopefully GOVT/UNICEF has some data on this ?

we need to explore the next step in maslow's pyramid
The safety and affection :
and if we can get the data what prevents girls attending school we can find the answer. One of the reason parents doesn't send them to school because of security reasons and their thought that after marriage she won't be staying with them so they don't wan't to invest in them. So there are few options left, either the parents mindset should change, with campaign which we cannot trust because of poverty etc, or by making the girl as an income generating member.

We can bring laws, execute campaigns etc for a girl's education, but with poverty and people's mindset, it may not succeed. I believe at least 80% of school dropout reasons should be poverty and remaining should be security.

Interactive radio education can be used to address security, but do the girls really get time to learn at home?
check this article for issues of girl child in attending school in india:
More over if the idea, gets campaigned properly through UN/UNICEF/UNHCR Volunteers (Social Site) + Celebrity through ice bucket like challenge the fund raised can be used to have cloud/granny teaching concepts https://www.ted.com/speakers/sugata_mitra

so we can provide a quality education as well, which is a crisis in many parts of the country, going forward i feel recorded media and one day interactive session will be the future as no of passionate teachers are decreasing

We can use the general art which a child draws, and using that art we can arrange in the packaging, probably it can generate a job opportunity for some people if it is an hand-made(manual) package, rather than a machine packaging.

So in this case we can have many designs as well.
The art work should be 2 types
  1. Give a topic and let them draw on that subject, say "No Smoking" the art work can be used as an emblem on the candy.
  2. The art work itself, can be arranged into a design.Ask the child to do some spatial arrangements in the form of jewelry it can be necklace, bracelet etc.. (This is more like abacus teaching, it improves the child imagination and thinking ability.)
  3. We can just use a message, like " No x Smoke" as emblem. We can send the message like stop child marriage, with series of messages stating the advantage of educating a girl etc, these topics we can ask the student to convey in art or word forms, for e.g in a necklace dollar we can have a girl triumphing with books in her hand.(As picture/art conveys more than words.)
  4. To make it more nutritious we can use nuts as well in the packaging, so it reduces issues like obesity as well.
  5.  More over when we ask children to work on the art, i believe their thoughts gets diverted without thinking about the past.
  6. Probably we can ask some artist to validate the children's work and based on that we can do packaging, or if we want to create more awareness, we can have a section in the Site (GOVT/UNICEF/UNHCR) it self, to vote for the top x design from the students/volunteers and we can use that x design for packaging, we can have filters at various levels, at class, then at school, then at country level and finally at the UN/UNICEF/UNHCR web site.
  7. The main issue for girl's education, is mindset, through the art work we can send message as well, the more the no of time people sees a message they tend to change their mind, the reason for keeping it as an affordable product is that, every one can afford to buy it, when someone wears a bracelet for e.g a volunteer it reaches everyone at grass root level so the obstacles of the girls starts reducing with change in mind set.As the majority contributor will be children and youngsters, we can give good message and thoughts through these design, so we can raise better humans and can achieve gender equality as well. Psychology says "if you feed a child with good thoughts right from young age, no matter how difficult the situation is they won't get attracted to wrong deeds".
most of the time good messages fails because they are short lived or not campaigned properly to the right audience.Through this product we can spread the message to every one (Rich to Poor).

We can use one of the method to conduct class
  1. Mobile van education, where a common place in the locality, can be chosen like church and the recorded media and teacher will be available to the students. If the no of teachers are less we have to go for alternatives.
  2. Radio channels for education.
  3. Internet based teaching using Gran ma teaches concept / Foreign online volunteer teaches, if we can design a proper time zone based time table we can use this approach, students or any volunteer can take an hour class on their favorite subject, in their absence a recorded media can be telecast, we can use Google hangouts for interactive sessions. I believe many teenagers will support the cause! this can be introduced as a part of social service activity in colleges, so that many students will participate, probably we can motivate them by providing a certificate as a token of appreciation.

Awareness Campaign

Campaign based awareness through accessible mediums

Create an awareness campaign through various media:

  1. Ration-Food Campaign : As part of UNHCR steps, Ration-Food is been provided at some places; ensure that the packaged food like milk, grocery items and water bottles has a campaign on advantages of educating the girls. This can be a comic strip based campaign or just an ordinary campaign with few words.
  2. School Level Competition : Conduct competition at school and colleges ask the students to come up with posters, advertisement viral, street play concepts etc. All the materials should be uploaded to the site, and it will be allowed for the public viewing to create the awareness across the world. This ensures that at least in future people would resolve the issues by talking.
  3. The top x campaigns will be selected by UNHCR and will be put into use.For e.g. the Script/ Street Play video can be played in local community so parents and families will realize the importance of educating children.
  4. Broadcast the advertisement in the local channels repeatedly so that the awareness is created.
  5. Ring-Tone Based Campaign : Create a r ing tone for this campaign and ask the students, volunteers to use them. The more we make them listen. there are chances of making a change in people.
  6. The above campaigns should cover below thoughts, please refer mind map for details:
  7. Redefine religious thoughts : Highlight e.g. from religion, which supports woman: This campaign needs to be developed by feminist students who knows about their religion well and can highlight these thoughts. For e.g Atlanta a Greek women warrior. Sikandhi from hindu r eligion, Epics and religion has a strong depiction of women, but it is the mindset that filters it out.
  8. Future Perspective : Give a future perspective, what would happen if a girl gets education and if not!. Let the people decide what they want a brighter or a darker future!
  9. Use repetitive marketing in through the above media to achieve the goals. Advantages of repeating an advertisement http://www.marketingupdate.co.za/?IDStory=22173

Awareness is the main issue for most of the problem: If we can highlight the importance of educating a woman, it will change the mind-set of the people,
  1. when a woman gets educated, she can safe guard her family from disease,
  2. malnutrition,
  3. unwanted pregnancy and
  4. if she develops skills she can work and can increase the per capital income of the family.
Rather than having a formal subject based teaching, if it gets induced in the advertisements and public gathering events, it will make a change.

How will you meaningfully engage parents, families and communities in the design and implementation of your program?
  1. Role of Family : Parents should encourage children to go to school, and should allow their children in participating in the campaign, they should use the mobile tone of this campaign, so the more no of people will come to know about the advantages of educating a girl and will be willing to send their children to school.
  2. Community: Should use the play-scripts developed during the campaign, and should conduct the street plays in some public gathering/ festival period. So people tend to focus on the thoughts. It’s all about changing the mind set of the people, once it is achieved we can win the issue.
Let the student contribute the message,
  1. Conduct a competition in the schools, they know about their issues, better than any one else, more over if some one is depressed, it is better to give them some interesting work for some time, it will refresh their mind.
  2. Conduct a competition through voices of youth(UNICEF) so it reaches all the youngsters, let them contribute as comic strip or campaign slogan
  3. You can have an online Govt-students volunteers, who contributes for the message/content.Once in 2 months you can conduct a competition with online volunteers. I suggest to attract students for this competition because they are the future leaders, let them think about the issues at an younger age! Many of the good leaders were impacted because of their childhood and teenage age. So use the same principle here.
Few messages which i thought:
"Want a brighter future ?" "Light it up with education"!
"Raise Atlanta !, not a child bride"
"Imagine a world with out Goddess" "Jesus with mother mary !"
Save girls!
"Buds meant to blossom", don't kill them!
"Lend a voice for a child!, save him/her " call 1098 for child help line
Use pictures as well, like a teddy bear being wounded!, or a picture with out face for child abuse these are just some thoughts i want to share, probably students who have interest in arts could provide more information.

Student Community :
GOVT can conduct a competition in colleges, so students in the community can come up with a recorded play, that can be played in the required country.(Preferable considering fund) and we can use these students to train some of the refugee students so going forward they can take up the task.

Researchers in Plays(Preferable):Few lectures who does research in Indian University/Stanford, probably they can help, if they are interested in participating in this idea as their students will get an opportunity to learn they offer some course in novoed.

Professional Guidance:(Based on Govt Choice)
Probably we can ask some professional person like Yale faber,to judge a play along with the celebrities/goodwill ambassador, as she has a wide range of experience,so she may have cultural knowledge,

Technology Based Education For Poor Children

Please give a detailed outline of your proposed solution or idea. Include any potential partners in implementation as well as potential timeline and budget for implementation.

Use Technology to provide education to children : We can give quality education by using the technology and by connecting to the globe, and where ever possible reuse the existing information.Use a common place for school, like temple, church in absence of school.

  1. EDU-VAN for education:Mobile van will contain equipment like Computer,Mobiles,Mobile gadgets like memory card,Mobile/Radio charge outlet which will be used by the teacher and students. The mobile van can reach to the remote place and can be used to teach the students. The recorded media like pdf can be saved in the mobiles so this will serve as a text book for children. Th children can take the mobiles to their home and can learn. The usage of recorder media such as videos from youtube, how stuff works will help the children to learn at faster/own phase. Probably some rights are needed as these materials are been used by an organization. We need not invest a huge amount in mobiles there are many organizations that recycle the mobiles, with advancement in technology probably we can get the recycled mobiles at a cheaper rates, and can have the recorded materials in it. Moreover we need just a device to play media files and have pdf so that will not cost much.
  2. Google Hangout based education: We can ask students from other countr ies, to provide a online class sessions to the refugee camp students. If we can design a Time-Zone based Time Table, and by having collaboration with schools and colleges we can execute this idea. As a part of social service activity, points credit should be given to the students and teachers of various school, where they will be spending 2 to 3 hrs a week in teaching the children on their favorite subject. At the end of the session the google hangout video will be available which can be used as recorded material and can be reused for clarifying doubts and refreshing the subject.
  3. Radio Based Education : Still there are places which may not have enough electricity, so we can use radio in those places. 3 or 4 dedicated channel for education, where the subjects can be broad casted repeatedly and weekly once.Children can attend the school (common place like temple/ Van) and can get their doubts clarified. If that is not possible an interactive radio session can be conducted/Email based question answer session can be conducted where the children can post their question to the staff/teacher they will send a mail to other teachers and will provide an answer.
  4. Bring Innovation in Teaching : In today's world innovation cannot be ignored,so even the teachers should keep learning, and should introduce new approaches in learning, there are many online free courses on creativity and Design labs. Which will be useful for teachers and students. So the teachers/students can enroll in those courses and can share their experiences. One such course is by Novo Education, Creativity course by Tina Selig https://novoed.com/creativity, where you get a chance to interact with professionals from various background. "Nothing can replace Experience, and when some shares it please absorb it!"
  5. Knowledge Sharing Session : Let the students learn through the recorded media, and let them be one day teacher. Where the student takes class for other students, the idea is to improve their confidence and soft skills which are required for their future. In advanced version of knowledge sharing the refugee students can take class to the foreign students so they can overcome their fear.
  6. Online Volunteer for ART based fund raise Idea: The students can help in designing website, hosting the website, creating the contents for social site such as posters, video, music, etc to promote the idea. This will help them in enhancing their skill and profile. When they interact with outside world they can over come their fear and can r ealize their potentials.https://educategirls.unhcrideas.org/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=3387
  7. Advanced Skill Learning: We can use some mobiles to have advanced skill set learning, which contains recorded materials on various subjects like "Languages, Photography, Journalism " etc let the student learn these skills through the recorded media. Then UNHCR can conduct a workshop on that subject based on the enr olled students strength. The accelerated workshops and apprenticeship helps them to achieve the job.

How does your idea sustainably solve the challenge question?

  1. Security Issue :One of the main reasons, girls avoid school is the security reasons. If we can deliver the materials through recorded media through mobiles, we don't need even the internet, they can play the recorded materials and pdf at their own phase. They can clarify their doubt once or twice in a week when the Edu-Van reaches their place. "Its better to learn, than being taught." More over most of the girls dropout during the secondary education and by using the animations we can teach them easily as the "picture is worth more than a thousand words"!
  2. Divide and Conquer Education with informal discussion : Let the girls interact with each other, their neighbor/ friend let them learn one subject properly and share the learning with other girls in their locality.
  3. Time Management : When a girl becomes pregnant, or she has household responsibilities she cannot spend enough time in school, with the help of recorded media she can learn the things at faster pace, and by giving 3-4 hours on important subject she can achieve a good education. After a certain age " We can learn by our -self, but we need to invest ample time and confidence to achieve it.
  4. Advanced Skill Learning: We can use some mobiles to have advanced skillset learning, which contains recorded materials on various subjects like "Languages, Photography, Journalism " etc let the student learn these skills through the recorded media. Then UNHCR can conduct a workshop on that subject based on the enrolled students strength. The acceler ated workshops and apprenticeship helps them to achieve the job.

How will you meaningfully engage parents, families and communities in the design and implementation of your program?

  1. Parents and Families : Parents should encourage their children to attend the technology based school, as the schooling is delivered to their home. So the security issue is been addressed. At the max their children has to visit the EDU-VAN or Church based school weekly once or twice. This is a chain reaction when one family follows it, others will start doing it.
  2. Communities: The communities can help in setting up the school in the church or other common places, and they have to spread the message that "By educating a girl they are educating their society" during the public gathering they need to spread the message of Technology based schooling and their advantages, such as their children has a good scope to get a job, quality education and stipend/ration- food when they work for art based schooling https://educategirls.unhcrideas.org/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=3387. So this encourages the parent to send them to school.
The idea is much similar to distance education, in some countries the final examination counts, with some clauses, but it seems some practicals needs to be done through the school. In India some schools do this but they need to provide some proper proof.

I feel recorded media would be better if the security and time are the major constraints, for girl's drop-out.
If the poverty are the main reason, then probably i would suggest Google Hangout Approach, where we can keep the girls in school by offering them ration based nutrition-food, with the help of few online volunteers as part of Social Service Credit this can be achieved. But to achieve this GOVT/UNHCR/UNICEF/UN-GEFI needs to work with some school and colleges to consider this activity as part of social service credit points. With such ideas we can provide quality education as well.

Its all about connecting the distributed places through technology, In some countries, drop-out occurs because of poor education standard. So we can address this issue globally!

3. http://www.edexcel.com/i-am-a/student/find-a-centre/pages/where-can-i-take-edexcel-exams.aspx

Skype based learning are important, but based on environment, they have to be used, in fact skype based teaching can be used in edu-van for clarifying the doubts of the students. probably we can integrate few things with edu-van, so whenever these girls gets some leisure time, they can use it.

Probably we can integrate a basic version of design thinking in teaching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjyutgqoBLo this will be useful for teachers and students, using design thinking https://novoed.com/designthinking we can list out, what all the house hold activities that needs to be completed, and how it can be achieved with innovation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FzFk3E5nxM and group discussion, this reduces the work load on the students, if we achieve an idea, it increases retention.

There is Magic Bus at some places http://www.magicbus.org/about-us, but the main aim of magic bus is to r aise sports, EDU-VAN should be similar to Magic bus (you can check with UNICEF they are one of the sponsor).EDU-VAN can be used in two versions as a classroom (advanced) and as a supplement for school(basic) based on the attendance details as below:

  1. Supplement School:At places where the attendance is less or where school are faraway for children, we need to implement this idea. One of the major issue gir ls faces is security and performing house hold activities, if we provide them tablet/mobiles with pdf and media. they can do self learning for 4 days at their own pace and on 5th day, they can clarify their doubts from the teacher/volunteer in the van based on their convenient time, attendance is a must. If the volunteer couldn't clarify the doubt,he can connect to the next level person through skype and get the doubt clarified. Apart from that the Bus can serve as an internet cafe, where the gir ls can come and surf whenever they get time. Ideally teacher/volunteer will be attending the bus once or twice a week.Probably some one within the locality will be handling the bus, probably inside the church/temple.
  2. Classroom: The advanced version of Bus can be used as classroom, where the only change is 4 or 5 bus are required to conduct class in the locality. But i doubt, if this would succeed as of now. As there are many restriction for girls, so the parents may not send them to school through out the week. This idea should be implemented only if required, after analyzing the attendance.

PDF'S on mobile device : This is up to Govt/UNICEF?UNHCR, if we can provide tablets to all children well and good. If we can't do that, probably we can ask some mobile company for help, they may be recycling their mobiles, they can contribute it more devices for this program, probably a joint venture recycle program can be done so we can gather more no of devices, so people will also contribute for the good cause!
Nokia Recycle Project: http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/about-us/people-and-planet/sustainabledevices/recycling/recycling/. What basically required is a device that plays media files and has ability to read pdf. So this ensures cost cutting.

Edu-Van's advantage can be used in remote places, where accessibility is less for children. Based on the attendance on internet sur fing we can reuse the bus. Say if the no of girls, using internet are less in these 6 days( leaving 1 day for doubt clarification) , probably the bus can stand in the church for 1.5 days, and for remaining 5.5 days they can go to the nearby villages and teach other children. Just ensur e One EDU-VAN, covers more than one place probably one refugee camp, and nearby village where schools not present just to ensure knowledge gets delivered to everyone with quality.

I am suggesting to use recycled mobile phones for one of the reasons, in some countries people tend to sell the tablets/laptop, which has been offered for education at half rate because of poverty, then this idea doesn't serves the purpose. So if we use an outdated technology like a basic mobile with media and pdf reader. They won't be able to sell it! Just a thought on the protection element, We can use GPS Vehicle tracking if required!, This site provides you the details about it. http://argotrak.com/benefits/
http://www.trackyourtruck.com/software/nettrack-mapping Based on the vehicle activity, it monitors and send you message, so we can inform the security/Police team, if required!

E-ATLAS - Teachers Required by 2030:(There is no guarantee that we can raise quality teachers by this period, with the current fund allocation in each country)
http://tellmaps.com/uis/teachers/ If we need to deliver quality education we need to use technology and enhance self-learning.

when number of quality teachers are less, no school, parents not ready to send children to school every week, we need to use this idea. Some org says they can provide teachers at need basis, on training ! we can't create quality teachers all of a sudden, moreover we need to have teachers with passion and not working for money! most of these areas are not monitored, so some just takes attendance and move off! no evidence!. So we can't say that class teaching will work!
Issues faced by girls:
http://www.theguardian.com/education/2013/mar/11/indian-children-education-opportunities
http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/needs-improvement-despite-progress-indias-primary-education-system-has-a-ways-to-go/
moreover we need to keep upgrading our self to technology, otherwise these children will be out of the race. Probably we need to show the importance of education and give a self awareness with an empathy play to highlight the importance of education.

  1. Yes we can cross check the questionnaire for this idea.(Here it may give more positive result as teacher are less, parents not willing to send them to school)
  2. Use of animation, things gets explained much faster!we can use this for some imp topics prob science.
  3.  Just to ensure that they study for 4 days, probably we need to give some questionnaire to check if they are studying at home! which gives them self-control!, if they don't have self-contr ol and will to learn, they won't learn in school as well!
  4. We can use the same teacher/ to operate and help the children, we can identify one leader among these children, who will serve as guide instructor, who can help other children as well.
  5. We can include Interactive Radio as well.
  6. but probably we need to implement one by one, we need to pilot it at two location and see how the students responds, probably as i said before if parents are ready to send gir ls through out the week we can use the radio and skype idea. But if not often to school then we need mobile idea only. So we need to check based on following points.

Radio/Skype

  1. Parent's concern
  2. Child safety in location
  3. Availability of basic skilled teachers (available for whole week?) teacher on demand are of quality ? (one of the reason of drop out is lack of quality)
  4. Availability of trainer in the location
  5. Availability of school, toilets, water facility, transport, safety etc
  6. Internet/computer facility available?
  7. if internet fails computer fails what is the alternative?
  8. Is the child available for 8 hrs per day ?

Mobile learning

  1. Availability of trainer in the location.
  2. Is the child comfortable with mobile, after some guidance?
  3. Does parent allow child, to edu-van for 1-3 day?

We may need to increase the number of days initially, as these children takes some time to get adjusted to technology!

Future Expansion:

  1. We can include old people as online teaching volunteers, they will be happy to teach and people with depression, can be used to create course material/teachers with creative thoughts! creative workshop is one of the treatment for depression http://www.lifeworkscommunity.com/treatment-methods/methods.html Some treatment center may help, in creating the contents(may not be currently applicable, but in global perspective going forward).
  2. We can use hybrid solar-powered vehicle, this reduces the maintenance cost. http://inhabitat.com/eco-camper-by-verdier/ (probably a better customized vehicle we can have, based on the budget) If the solar cells with magnifying glasses are used, it increases the efficiency of the set up. http://www.psfk.com/2014/02/solar-panel-magnifying-glass.html
  3. We can have solar powered mobile charging center near church or temple/ Solar Chargers, so in absence of electricity students can charge the mobiles.

HomeSchooling Diploma vs GED (Promising solution GED)
We can register edu-van as homeschooling

then probably a GED-Test is required, which is equivalent to schooling certificate: http://www.brighthubeducation.com/test-taking-tips/68924-benefits-of-getting-a-ged/
