Few Questions

Few Questions:

Its good to see, many apps to protect women, and some tips and articles from various NGO, but all these are short term ideas, why there hasn’t been a long term solution?, as per UN women India report in documentary film by Radha Bedi, BBC, main reason of  VAW  is due to the way women are been treated at home, so this issue will keep continuing unless there is a mutual respect, but I haven’t seen any change in education or any sustained campaign been conducted by any country, though we still can use students and street plays as part of Nss activity,  to achieve the same with minimum capital , I feel short term solution can work because of fear of getting caught, but the long term solution is governed by the guilt feeling and psychology pull back, the idea is simple, focus on matha, pitha and guru, even if the matha and pitha fails at least we can ensure guru does this role, so it will always works, what is the best way to achieve this and how can an NGO and govt can help in achieving this ? Some time simple ideas targeting the emotions makes a everlasting impact. as per a Harvard research http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/7267.html on viral videos, so why can't same be tried?

you can refer few ideas been shared with UNHCR for girls education which is on similar line.

Social Fashion Prototype

Using creativity of child, raise fund and give training to other youngsters in various fields. Which helps in their career.

This idea is to inspire, org like unicef and unhcr has to work in developing product that can be sold, this is called social fashion.

PPT details https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1mqXBGn5we3eFJmaFdiTElyNFU/view?pli=1

EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

Ongoing Fund : The idea is to make a product through the art work of child, and use that art work as a candy package,(with less investment, more students can buy, new product), basically the idea should be lead by an established org(GOVT/UN/UNICEF/UNHCR) they need to make a deal with the candy manufacturer, this packaging should be in form of an jeweler/bracelet to target the youngsters. This packaged product will be sold in schools, colleges, Shops etc just to raise an awareness and for raising the fund. The ratio of poor children will be far less than children who are doing well, So still lot of fund can be raised, if org like UNHCR can ensure that these products gets max tax benefit,we can raise more fund!
The product should be marketed in various countries, that's why i mentioned UNICEF and UN. If they could market it through school, college and shops (not sure how exactly they do merchandise) they can raise a good amount of aid. Is it possible GOVT\UNCIEF making a joint venture with one of these org? for executing this kind of idea? because the main issue is the fund and money, if we have more funds, more ideas can be executed and more children can be brought up to the school

WHO BENEFITS?

1)Children learns alternate thinking,
2)Students learns various skills, the students needs to promote this idea in social sites, by creating posters etc
3)Students needs to maintain/ design a website where the voting for the design needs to take place.
4)Some students can be involved in discussion with the candy manufacturing industries, so they get to learn the process & business negotiation.

PROTOTYPE

1) Select a topic, ask the children to draw on the given topic on the paper.
2) Use the senior children, teachers to short list 10 pictures from each class.
3)upload the pictures in any site that produces free upload (for e.g Facebook )
4)Use a celebrity from arts background who supports UNICEF to validate those pictures.
5)Shortlist those pictures
6)Ask the students to convert those as jewellery model, all the pictures can be combined to a model or each one can be combined to a model.
7)Make a limited edition of these, by having a discussion with the candy manufacturer, so that limited edition of the candies gets sold with this packaging.
8)See the market response for these products when sold in school, apparel shop, grocery shop.
9)Decide the price and have a tie up at international level for squeezing various tax, so that a maximum profit can be made for such a product that can be used as a money credit in the parent's cash card.

FEEDBACK

This idea has been shared previously https://educategirls.unhcrideas.org/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=3387
I would like to see more feedback on this, so that the idea can become robust.

I have been working on this idea for almost 4 years, though not completely, it has undergone transition in each stage. Sharing the consolidated feedback along with the initial version and i have marked the tasks to be done by UNICEF and UNHCR in red under the feedback section. Please go through the attached document
1) Initial-version-with-feedback.pdf

Other feedback to be obtained.
1) Psychologist on the effect of spatial arrangement and colors
2) Consumers : Teenagers, youngsters, and parents how much they can contribute for such an idea, and will they contribute ?

There may be initial challenges as the business model is new, but this idea will work with minimum risk as mentioned in the prototype and feedback section. I feel its an idea worth to be tried out.

Importance of this idea:
1)Fund it can raise
2)Teach children on spatial arrangement
3)Good message to community
4)Reduces obesity in children when designed with nuts.

http://www.unhcr.org/556db2606.html there are still shortage of funds in some refugee areas, so such ideas can help a lot.

FEEDBACK of initial version i am mentioning here, the idea i have submitted, is after making the changes based on feedback

The Bad?
· Already product present in market
· Cost, every time they are not ready to spend, though the cause is for good.

What failed?
· Product chosen was wrong (School bags, handkerchief) it was not unique!

Were there suggestions for improvement?
· Try to reduce the price
· Market it with help of some celebrity through social site.
·This gave the thought of candy jewellery

What needs further investigation?
• Type of a product, to be changed
• Have a recurring customer with small profit, than one time customer.

The Good?
When i shared the social fashion idea with, few youngsters they said they are glad to
contribute for such ideas http://www.voicesofyouth.org/en/posts/minimize-child-labour-and-poverty
But this is a small group, this survey needs to be done with more people.
· Can it target all the age group ?
· Will all the teenagers will support the idea ?
What did people value the most?
• The price
• The concern, that it will reach the people who requires the aid!
• They don't want it to be business
• They want their maximum contribution to reach, without tax duty.

What got them excited?
• Small contribution can change, someone's life and they get a product as well for their
contribution

What convinced them about the idea ?
• Fine to contribute for a cause
• Ready to buy for a smaller price, and if it is not a business in name of social
cause.

The Unexpected?
• Price, good cause

Did anything happen that you didn't expect?
• The idea of marketing the product through some celebrity as teenagers tend to follow
their style.

What Next
• Price was a concern for youngsters, as other products like bags are available in the market.
But each time they don't wan't to contribute that much
• Based on what i learned, how i changed idea?
1. Affordable price – Candy Jewellery (Candy looks simillar to designer stones in
jewellery so pack it and use it then consume it.)
2. To make it for a cause – This needs to be done by UNICEF and UNHCR
3. Maximize amount reaching the people in need – Only UNICEF / UNHCR can do.

The things required to be tested.
1. Feed back taken was from a smaller group, this needs to be done in a broader
perspective. https://polldaddy.com/poll/7093203/?view=results
2. Psychologist on the effect of spatial arrangement and colors
3. Consumers : Teenagers, youngsters, and parents how much they can
contribute for such an idea, and will they contribute ?
4. UNICEF and UNHCR : Is this model feasible ?
5.Get the clay/drawings of the children based on a topic.
6.Share this with volunteers, senior students in the refugee camp and ask them to frame it as an ornament model
7.Discuss with the candy/nuts industries about the feasible packing and designs that can be manufactured.
8.Launch the product in the selected countries, through school, college, retail market, and apparel stores.

The spatial arrangements are important in future, as we have space constraints, so every thing needs to behave along with the space from vehicle, home, and robots. So this type of education needs to be introduced at an early stage. Tet robots its a field which is already been explored in space exploration where the same robot can change its space and can be used for multiple purposes.

If we use nuts in the design we can avoid, obesity and other disease in the future generation http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/08/health/research/global-diabetes-rates-are-rising-as-obesity-spreads.html?_r=1

Technology Based Education

Technology Based Education

Use Technology to provide education to children : We can give quality education by using the technology and by connecting to the globe, and where ever possible reuse the existing information.Use a common place for school, like temple, church in absence of school.

  1. EDU-VAN for education:Mobile van will contain equipments like Computer,Mobiles,Mobile gadgets like memory card,Mobile/Radio charge outlet which will be used by the teacher and students. The mobile van can reach to the remote place and can be used to teach the students. The recorded media like pdf can be saved in the mobiles so this will serve as a text book for children. Th children can take the mobiles to their home and can learn. The usage of recorder media such as videos from you tube, how stuff works will help the children to learn at faster/own phase. Probably some rights are needed as these materials are been used by an organization. We need not invest a huge amount in mobiles there are many organizations that recycle the mobiles, with advancement in technology probably we can get the recycled mobiles at a cheaper rates, and can have the recorded materials in it. Moreover we need just a device to play media files and have pdf so that will not cost much.
  2. Google Hangout based education: We can ask students from other countries, to provide a online class sessions to the refugee camp students. If we can design a Time-Zone based Time Table, and by having collaboration with schools and colleges we can execute this idea. As a part of social service activity, points credit should be given to the students and teachers of various school, where they will be spending 2 to 3 hrs a week in teaching the children on their favorite subject. At the end of the session the google hangout video will be available which can be used as recorded material and can be reused for clarifying doubts and refreshing the subject.
  3. Radio Based Education : Still there are places which may not have enough electricity, so we can use radio in those places. 3 or 4 dedicated channel for education, where the subjects can be broadcasted repeatedly and weekly once.Children can attend the school (common place like temple/ Van) and can get their doubts clarified. If that is not possible an interactive radio session can be conducted/Email based question answer session can be conducted where the children can post their question to the staff/teacher they will send a mail to other teachers and will provide an answer.
  4. Bring Innovation in Teaching : In today's world innovation cannot be ignored,so even the teachers should keep learning, and should introduce new approaches in learning, there are many online free courses on creativity and Design labs. Which will be useful for teachers and students. So the teachers/students can enroll in those courses and can share their experiences. One such course is by Novo Education, Creativity course by Tina Selig https://novoed.com/creativity, where you get a chance to interact with professionals from various background. "Nothing can replace Experience, and when some shares it please absorb it!"
  5. Knowledge Sharing Session : Let the students learn through the recorded media, and let them be one day teacher. Where the student takes class for other students, the idea is to improve their confidence and soft skills which are required for their future. In advanced version of knowledge sharing the refugee students can take class to the foreign students so they can overcome their fear.
  6. Online Volunteer for ART based fund raise Idea: The students can help in designing website, hosting the website, creating the contents for social site such as posters, video, music, etc to promote the idea. This will help them in enhancing their skill and profile. When they interact with outside world they can over come their fear and can realize their potentials.https://educategirls.unhcrideas.org/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=3387
  7. Advanced Skill Learning: We can use some mobiles to have advanced skill set learning, which contains recorded materials on various subjects like "Languages, Photography, Journalism " etc let the student learn these skills through the recorded media. Then UNHCR can conduct a workshop on that subject based on the enrolled students strength. The accelerated workshops and apprenticeship helps them to achieve the job.

This information shared for educate girls challenge for UNHCR. Lot of discussion on this topic has been done. Which can be checked through the below url.

National Social Service Credit Based Education using technology

Think Different - National Social Service Credit Based Education using technology.

This is an idea to inspire, a lot of discussion was made when this was shared in educate girls UNHCR challenge.

WHO BENEFITS?

This has to be integrated with the existing UNICEF/UNHCR school kit program-me. There is a concept called magic-bus probably this can be done as an joint venture as well. If a tie is made with GED program, valuable certificates can be given to the student. The students from various schools and colleges can act as the teachers, with some guidance. With proper time zone time table we can achieve.

PROTOTYPE

1)Select 3 school or colleges, that are willing to contribute at teachers through UNICEF volunteers. Give them them accelerated teachers training which some org offers, based on needs for the shortlisted students based on their interest on teaching and academic records.
2)Make a skype arrangement in the school/refugee camp.
3)Use the devices / tablet or recycled devices (needed at large scale for students)/ pre load the content from previous projects/ org like e-limu (kenya) can help / other research can help. http://www.heart-resources.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Educational-Technology-Topic-Guide.pdf?7f51b4
4)Teach the important contents of the subject per day
5)Prepare a check list and see how the children are responding.
following page contains all the details on discussion, please go through the comments as well.
https://educategirls.unhcrideas.org/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=3477
6)Identify the senior students from the group to teach, and use them as classroom teachers.

FEEDBACK

Follow the feedback given by UNHCR volunteers and educational experts on this idea:
https://educategirls.unhcrideas.org/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=3477
looking forward for more feedback.

SKILL SHARE (optional)

1)Have a tie up with some schools an colleges
2)Have a tie up so that students who acts as teachers gets NSS / other credits from the university
3)Have a tie up with some university / GED so that the irrespective of the curriculum designed the student gets a proper certificate that he can use it for higher education.

Main challenges in ELearning

1)No of devices to student ratio : Make a collaboration with mobile companies, do a mobile recycle event where people may contribute for the cause and these mobiles can be distributed to more children with a preloaded course materials. Media player and Pdf readers are required.
2)No of teachers to student ratio : Use National social credit scheme, where interested students will be shortlisted by schools and colleges who can take sessions through skype. Then form the teachers from the group.
3)Network challenges : we can address this only by having offline content, alternatively E-Bus can have preloaded contents in the memory card that can be used in the mobile phones.
4)Time for education : make it as a self learning process
5)School Buildings:e-Bus can be the alternative, where lib etc can be created along with a staff. through skype students can get their clarification cleared.
6)Curriculum : major challenge is the curriculum, some countries like kenya has digital content, but not all so please try to have a tie up with org like GED, so that a standard curriculum gets established so that e-learning is not just for knowledge, an equivalent school degree certificated is provided, which helps the student in career.

Domestic Violence Zero Tolerance

Domestic violence has been prevalent across the world, there are many articles on them, but what i want to cover is not the subject, but looking for a solution.
  1. Few tips can be taken from psychologist, how to handle the situation, because no one is prepared for such things, especially not every one is blessed with supporting family and friends. At times people may have to handle every thing alone.
  2. Some times i feel women goes silent, because of  financial dependency, society / family pressure and other times because of their love for the partner, few people can be cured, sometimes i feel some men can become possessive, but there are exceptions as well, so first thing i feel, people may need to take psychologist suggestion as well, if their loved ones behaves differently, at the same time they need to ensure their safety as well, when some one had to face the stages mentioned by redelephant poster1 campaign.
  3. It will be wise to educate the girls, at least it supports them, rather than paying huge dowry to some one, i feel this every parents should realize, due to society and family pressure these parents get trapped with these peoples. This is in no way, going to give their daughter a better life, its just going to make worse. Unfortunately no one shares these kinds of information in their social profiles, probably we can try doing this as an interactive sessions say ask some one to come up with a tag line against dowry to stop dowry and tag it with other friends. As words and pictures says more, people starts to think about it,
  4. There hasn't been an education or even a session in the schools, to prevent violence against women, not even an assignment in schools and panchayath, the psychology is that children takes in what they see, and what been taught, even if they miss this education informally in family at least they can get educated in the schools as formally. The dowry has been a biggest problem in India, but still there isn't a solution. The only solution is to make the parents realize it, by paying dowry nothing can be achieved, and grooms side should also realize that it is a crime not a right.
  5. This may not be directly related to zerotolerance, some times women quit the job after getting married, so probably they may loose the confidence, in their career so they will be undergoing through DV silently, some articles from HR, which motivates them in keeping up with skill and confidence and by listing down some companies that gives opportunity after a break, would be helpful, so it helps in giving them confidence.
